Local or light general anaesthesia

Depending on your preference and the amount of tissue to correct, the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia (LA) or light general anaesthesia (GA) on an outpatient basis.

Resection of excess tissue

Excess tissue is removed using the chosen technique, preserving the natural edges and sensitivity of the labia minora.

Absorbable sutures

Closure is performed with fine absorbable sutures, which dissolve on their own in 3 to 4 weeks. No suture removal needed.

No, scars are carefully placed within the natural contours of the labia minora and become virtually invisible at 2–3 months post-operatively. The technique is chosen (linear or wedge) to minimise scar visibility.
Is it painful after the operation?+
The post-operative period is moderately painful during the first 48–72 hours, managed with simple analgesics. Swelling and bruising are normal during the first week. Discomfort decreases rapidly and healing is well underway at 3 weeks.
When can sexual intercourse be resumed?+
Resumption of sexual intercourse is advised after 6 to 8 weeks post-operatively, once complete healing and resolution of swelling have been confirmed at the follow-up consultation.
Is labiaplasty covered by health insurance?+
Labiaplasty is not covered by health insurance when performed for aesthetic reasons. In rare cases of severe documented functional discomfort (pain during sport, painful intercourse), partial coverage may be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Can it be combined with clitoral unhooding?+

What is the difference between functional and aesthetic indications?+

Can health insurance cover labiaplasty for functional discomfort?+
Yes, in certain specific situations. When hypertrophy of the labia minora causes disabling pain, recurrent thrush or severely documented dyspareunia, an application for coverage may be submitted to the health insurance fund. What are the usual post-operative effects?+
Post-operative effects include local swelling and bruising lasting 7 to 10 days, a sensation of tension or tingling for 2 to 3 weeks, and sick leave of 3 to 5 days for sedentary jobs. High-impact sport is not advised for 4 to 6 weeks. Warm sitz baths and daily local care are recommended for 3 weeks.
Can labiaplasty be performed after childbirth?+
Yes, labiaplasty can be performed after childbirth, provided a minimum interval of 3 to 6 months after delivery or breastfeeding is observed so that the tissues have returned to their definitive configuration. If breastfeeding, it is necessary to wait until breastfeeding has completely stopped before considering the procedure.
